Matthew 5:13-16

Things I Like on Amazon

This Sunday is Mother’s Day. (Hopefully this is not news to you LOL – If it is, you still have time to prepare!) Naturally, motherhood has been on my mind this week. Earlier this week I posted in a mom group on Facebook. But, there is more to be said about the subject!

Motherhood is a role that you can never fully prepare for. The emotional roller coaster ride that is motherhood (for most mothers) is not what you expect going in but once you are on the ride, you hold on for dear life! I’ve often heard it said that the hardest part of motherhood is this: you’re raising the very ones you can’t live without… to live without you.

Every day, moms make countless small sacrifices. Maybe you’ve been late because you had to turn around and grab something your child forgot for school. Maybe you’ve reworked the budget to afford something extra they needed. Some moms have even donated a kidney to save their child’s life. It’s amazing what we moms will do to make things happen for our children.

God sees you, Mama! He understands your sacrifices.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Galatians 6:9

I believe most mothers go into motherhood hoping to be the perfect Mom. We read all the books. We prepare as much as we can. We all think we have it figured out, don’t we? And then we have this little bundle that throws us curveball after curveball! And the struggle for perfection gets harder and harder!

I have never been a perfectionist myself, but I know a few people that are. And I see how hard it is. And I do understand the desire to be a perfect Mom. When I have made mistakes as a Mom I remember telling myself, “the one thing you always wanted to be good at, and you couldn’t even do that well”…. Friend, that is a lie from the enemy. Don’t listen to it.

The only perfect human to ever live was Jesus Christ – And He was God in human form. We can’t expect to be perfect. We can try to be like Him, we should strive to be Christ like, but we should not put so much pressure on ourselves that we stress ourselves and everyone else out.

I believe “mom guilt” is one of the enemy’s biggest tools to keep us down. That’s why it’s so important to stay in God’s Word—it’s life-giving in every way. I say this as someone who has failed in this area many times. But we weren’t made perfect. God knows our imperfections, and He wants to help us.

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9

Please do not compare yourself to other Moms that seem to have it all together or who seem to have perfect children. I promise you – no one is perfect. Social media only shows the highlight reel – the best parts of everyone’s lives. And if you spend alot of time scrolling, it’s easy to feel discouraged! My challenge to you is this: spend less time scrolling and more time in God’s Word. It will change your life.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mama. God sees you, He loves you, and He’s walking this journey with you.
