Matthew 5:13-16

Things I Like on Amazon

Recently we have seen several well known preachers/pastors “fall from grace”. Things are coming out about some kind of secret sins that they have had either in the past or recently, causing them to step away from ministry altogether.

This is heart breaking for a lot of people. My heart really goes out to the ones that are dealing with the backlash, their families and their followers. Imagine how hard it is to hear this about someone you have have followed, respected and held in high regard. You’ve studied their teachings and you have hung onto things they’ve said. Maybe you’ve even taught their bible studies. And now you find out that they have made some big mistakes or that they aren’t who you believed they were at all. It’s a big blow, especially for those that are not strong in their faith.

What I want us all to realize is that we cannot and should not put our faith in man. We are all human and people will let you down at some point. Do not hold someone in such high regard that, when you realize the truth about them, it shakes your faith. Your ultimate faith must be in the Creator. Our heavenly Father will never let us down. Even though it may feel like we’ve been let down sometimes, He always has what is best for us as part of His plan!

Pray for those that are in leadership positions in our churches and in other ministries. It is a difficult position and they are not perfect. I can’t imagine the pressure of being a leaders of a huge church or ministry. I can’t imagine the pressure of being in the public eye as a celebrity Pastor. I will not sit here and say who is and who isn’t in God’s will with these ministries. You can study for yourself and decide who to follow and who not to follow.

We each have the responsibility of studying God’s word for ourselves and making sure that those we are following are keeping in line with the scripture. When we have studied the word, we will have discernment when hearing God’s word preached. When we see or hear something that isn’t right, we need to call them out on it (in a Christian manner). Or when we don’t understand where they are coming from in their messages, we should question them. If they are led by Holy Spirit, they will be glad to further explain. Use discernment when following someone’s teachings. The Holy Spirit will show you when you should not follow someone.

Please, please do not allow someone to cause you to stumble in your own faith. Even personal relationships can cause this. Don’t put anyone above God, He comes first. He is always working things out for our good and ultimately according to His plan! (Romans 8:28)

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16:13

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep ‘s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Matthew 7:15
